Yeah I love busting it out. It's so unassuming, but yet so powerful. And it's super controllable (as seen in the video).
I don't want to just keep posting non WTPA vids, but if you check out my youtube channel, I've got a bunch of vids with ciat stuff all over it. Some nice piano + grassi + laptop stuff, and tons of 'drums' stuff.
One day it'd be fun to MIDI-fy some of Pete's stuff. Unfortunately I'm pretty sure he'd hate that. Unless it made him a lot of money. Then he'd hate it less. Arguably :-)
You won't be disappointed. It's a shame he stopped making paper circuits, as in, understandable and usable paper circuits. There's paper circuits for the deerhorn (2 diff versions) but a lot of the components don't have a legend, so it's a crap shoot. I managed to build the Rollz-5, which is awesome, and I've been dying to build a DogSlit. I even wanted to buy one as a kit, but I think that unit is dead in the water. I'm still going to try building one off what's on the webpage but he "recommended against it" as it would require a lot of "informed modding". Which isn't a promising place to start, but it's a place nonetheless.
It's awesome that you two went to school together. Such a small (crazy electronic device) world.
(I just got phase1 of my Arduino based granular tremolo working!)(Not as exciting as it sounds. So far I can control rate, and pulse width.)(Pretty exciting for me though.)
rodrigo (and everyone who feels like it), what did you use for the touch pads?
Peter recommends copper and brass for certain points. did you stick to his recommendation? do you what the differences will be, if one doesnt follow this advise exactly? I am really liking the bugbrand (audioweevil) and folktek style touchpads! They look just like etched pcbs - anyone who is in the know could point me in the right direction?
later, lu
p.s. one day I am gonna build the rollz-5. really a great sounding machine! :)
I used some thicker copper(or it might be brass?) rods, again, from a hobby shop. Anything that conducts will do though. You can use metal thumbtacks etc... I don't think the different materials for the different types of pins makes a massive difference. I used all the same, as did everyone I know, and it works fine. But it might just work even better with the right materials.
The bugbrand stuff looks kind of cool, I really don't like the fact that he never has anything for sale. Things are always sold out, or in development etc.. That, and I don't like the sound of 555ish sounding 'chirpers'. And folktek rubs me the wrong way for some reason. I think the instruments look beautiful, but the prices are absolutely outrageous, particularly since I get the feeling it's just circuit-bent pre-existing circuits on the inside.
Thanks for your comment. I will see if I can work out a way to stay close to the shem in regards to what materials used... I had a bugcrusher 08 that I sold to some dutch avantgarde guitar player not too long ago. it was definately well made, but I didn't have any use for it at that time... so I have to say tom bugs is an amazing guy! he might be really busy right now, mainly because he recently started his modular line that everybody is going crazy about....
Regarding the folktek stuff - I guess we have the same feeling about it ;)
Let me know what materials you end up using. It's always good to hear/find new stuff.
The bugbrand stuff does look awesome (I was in the market for a bitcrusher a while back), but that business model (I sell all these different things, but I only have 2 of these available, and you can't order something that isn't available) stinks. Squarewaveparade has that thing going, although that seemed to turn into "make a few and sell them for as high as possible on ebay".
Hehe on folktek. I've never seen anyone own or use one of those things.
Rodrigo - I will keep you posted on progress (and very likely: problems) in my sidrassi build.
regarding bugbrand: Tom is a really cool guy on a personal level, thats what I wanted to say. He is superfast in responding to emails and actually set up my deal when I needed to sell the stuff. From what I understand he does everything himself in his shop and recehntly hired someone to help. It really got out off hand since he offered the modular stuff.
folktek - I acutally saw a picture of a guy on muffwiggler.com I think, who owns a microgarden. It was placed on designer concrete table surrounded by barcelona chairs. Also some "minimal-design" books *accidently* found their way on the table in the picture... go figure ;)
